Yellow Tea
Niche healing yellow tea: the gentle aroma hidden in the mellow yellow

Among the six major tea categories, yellow tea has always been the most understated one. It lacks the crisp sharpness of green tea, the rich warmth of black tea, and the deep maturity of Pu’er tea. Like a gentle hermit hidden in the mortal world, it never seeks attention yet holds soothing tenderness within.
What makes yellow tea unique lies in its defining core process—yellowing, which also marks its fundamental difference from green tea. Green tea is rapidly dried after fixation to lock in its fresh, grassy notes. In contrast, after fixation and rolling, yellow tea leaves retain residual heat and moisture. They are covered and piled to rest, undergoing mild micro-fermentation in a warm and humid environment.
There are two traditional yellowing techniques. Most small-leaf yellow teas adopt wet-leaf yellowing, where the fresh leaves are piled and sealed while warm for several hours, yielding a bright, sweet and lively tea liquor. Premium large-leaf yellow teas apply dry-leaf yellowing, with leaves partially dried and then slowly aged and sealed for a much longer time, delivering a mellow and layered flavor.
This lengthy, meticulous process eliminates the raw grassy taste of tea leaves and gently transforms tea polyphenols. It creates yellow tea’s signature features: golden leaves, amber liquor, and a smooth, bitterness-free sweetness. This unrushed refinement through time is the true soul of yellow tea.
When brewed with boiling water, the tea liquor turns a clear, radiant golden yellow. A gentle sip fills the mouth with pure, soft sweetness. Free from the sharp astringency of green tea, it carries subtle chestnut and bamboo undertones, presenting a fresh yet rich taste. Smooth and velvety on the palate, the liquor glides down the throat, leaving a lingering sweet aftertaste. Mild and non-irritating, it is perfectly suitable for daily drinking, even for those with sensitive stomachs.
Whether you are worn out by spring drowsiness, weighed down by summer stuffiness, or troubled by restlessness in daily life, a cup of yellow tea is always the perfect remedy. Savor it slowly to calm impetuous moods and ease fatigue. Amid the soft fragrance, you can embrace tranquility and gentleness in life.
Underrated yet stunning, light yet long-lasting in flavor. This is yellow tea—quiet in presence, yet endless in charm. 🍵
