The tea is crafted from leaves grown in mineral-rich gravel soils among the rocky cliffs, absorbing the region's distinct "rock flavor." Through an intricate production process that includes sun-withering, shaking, rolling, and multiple rounds of charcoal roasting, Dahongpao develops its signature character.
The dry leaves are dark, tightly curled, and lustrous. When brewed, the tea reveals a golden-orange liquor with a complex, layered aroma—floral notes of orchid, fruity sweetness, warm caramel, and a distinctive roasted fragrance. On the palate, it offers a rich, full-bodied, and silky texture with a remarkable "rock essence" (Yan Yun) —a mineral-depth that lingers on the tongue. The finish is sweet, lasting, and deeply satisfying, with a cooling sensation that soothes the throat.
Exceptionally durable (7-10 infusions) and best enjoyed with boiling water in a Yixing clay teapot or Gaiwan, Dahongpao represents the pinnacle of Wuyi Rock Tea craftsmanship—a timeless classic that continues to captivate tea lovers around the world.
