Rizhao Green Tea: A Rare Coastal Green Tea From Northern China With Chestnut Aroma

When we talk about green tea, most people think of southern China. But Rizhao Green Tea comes from Rizhao, Shandong Province, known as the No.1 Green Tea north of the Yangtze River. It is one of the world’s three major coastal green teas.

Grown at latitude 35°N by the sea, the tea plants enjoy large day-night temperature differences and plenty of sunlight. Slow growth lets leaves build up rich amino acids and aromatic compounds, creating a unique taste different from southern green teas.

Dry tea leaves are tightly twisted, dark green and glossy. Made with traditional pan-fired processing: withering, fixation, rolling and drying. Its signature feature is a rich natural chestnut aroma, mixed with gentle bean notes.

Brewed liquor is yellowish-green and clear. The flavor is fresh, mellow and low in bitterness, with a sweet lingering aftertaste. The thick leaves make it highly infusion-resistant; you can steep it 4–6 times while still keeping good aroma.

Brew with 80–85°C water. Avoid boiling water directly on leaves to prevent harsh bitterness. Perfect morning or afternoon daily tea.

Storage tip: Keep airtight, away from light to preserve its lovely chestnut fragrance. Great choice for lovers of full-bodied green tea.
