Where Oolong Tea Comes From: A Quick Guide

Oolong sits between green and black tea, and its flavor is heavily shaped by where it grows. Here’s a simple breakdown of major oolong origins.
Fujian, China — The Heartland of Oolong
Guangdong, China
Phoenix Mountain (Fenghuang Dancong). Known for striking, rich aromas — honey, orchid, fruit. Each single bush has its unique scent profile.
Taiwan, China
High mountain oolong dominate this region. Grown at high elevations, they’re typically light oxidation, creamy, floral, and sweet. Dong Ding and Oriental Beauty are also classics.
A quick note
Terroir, altitude, and local processing make the biggest difference. Same tea variety planted in different mountains can taste completely different.
